National Hurricane Center latest

National Hurricane Center 7/9/o7 2:50PM

Still no sign of the Department of Commerce evaluation team which is said to be making a second visit to the troubled national Hurricane Center. Discord between staffers and the new Hurricane Center Chief Bill Provenza blew up last Friday when a large group of hurricane forecasters staged a protest news conference and presented a petition demanding that he resign. Provenza has been outspoken in recent months about government budgeting for hurricane forecasting and has been vocal about the lack of a replacement for an aging satellite that is critical for hurricane forecasting.
When asked if he would resign Provenza has said,”no.” It is no secret that he’s in hot water with his Washington bosses but as of this date none have called for the weather service veterans head.
All the players in this story are low key today. Provenza is out of town, staffers are mum, and at this hour the assessment team is nowhere to be found.
